apparently, you have no license to even 'own' a civet cat regardless the status, either it's protected, or totally protected, according to Schedule 1 and Schedule 2, Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
Digging a pit, to have that poor civet cat, fighting with other wild animals such as mongoose and squirrels, is a cruelty, not to be tolerated. this action would definitely hurt the civet cat, as well as the mongoose, one of the totally protected wild animals. this could lead you to a second offence, which is harming the protected animal.
Mr Alex, you could be arrested, without warrant, for committing, attempting to commit or abetting the commission of an offense under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

sorry for the crops, but do not fear for we have some ideas on how to help you get over this problem. (yay!)
fisrt, you're allowed to install some 'jerat' or traps, given that you'd applied for a license from PERHILITAN, and you'd remove the 'jerat' after all your crops had been harvested. this is because you would not have anymore reason to hurt him, after the harvesting.
second, you could as well apply for a license, to harm the elephant, in order to stop the crops being destroyed. remember, HARM. not KILL. please do bear in mind that you, as a civilian, has none whatsoever, to kill the wild animal, which is clearly under the protected list.
so far, that would all that i can do for you. please wait until i finish reading that 151 pages of act in protecting friends of that wild animal that attacked your crops.
