Relationships, no matter how good, are inevitably a series of compromises. But how much of ourselves should we be willing to sacrifice for the other person before we stop being ourselves?
In a relationship, when does the art of compromise becomes compromising?
- Sex And The City Quotes - Season 4, “Sex and the Country”.
Seeing Carrie queasiness in the jungle in her boyfriend’s hut, I couldn’t help but wonder about compromises when she said those words. In a relationship, compromises definitely play a huge role in a relationship. The other person shouldn’t be too strong in wanting things his or her own way to create that perfect balance.
But when we go things the opposite way to create some space for our beloved one, we sometimes sacrificed things that we don’t want to. We become somebody else that we are not. We changed. Some says it is the power of love, some says that person is just plain stupid to do or change so much for the other person.
In a relationship we definitely do not have a ruler or a scale that shows you how strong your love is. But we have something that we can use as a scale - sacrifices aka compromises. These are the things, and actions, that shows how strong and deep your love is. For love is a very abstract thing - us mortals can never judge how deep is one’s love or how strong is one’s love. But we can definitely judge it by the amount of sacrifices the other party made for us.
Sacrificing too much in a relationship equals yourself to be put in a position where you hope too much. When you hope too much, and you get disappointed, the amount of frustration will plunge you into that deep hole that you may not crawl out from. So beware when you are making compromises for the sake of love; never hope too much. Never think that you deserves the same amount of compromises and sacrifices because you did the same - it will put you in a never ending pain.
Just do it because you believe in that thing called love. If it didn’t work - hey. At least you knew that you tried your best
And nothing can make you feel better than knowing that you tried your best and whatever happened is fated.
After all, life is short. Love is a gift from God and if you don’t have it, try your better shot next time.
